46CMA looks to ban MMA in Canada
The CMA (Canadian Medical Association) is reported to having discussed banning MMA in Canada at their annual meeting. According to reports, delegates at the meeting voted to have the doctors group seek a government ban on the sport. Reports also state that opponents of Mixed Martial Arts say that sport puts fighters at risk of severe head trauma as well as other permanent injuries.
Hey Canada, ever heard of boxing?
Apparently they have. The CMA has also been seeking a ban on boxing since 2001. Can anyone think of another sport more violent than Boxing or MMA? I can. How about hockey Canada? It’s not very violent when two guys drop gloves and start beating the crap out of each other. In fact, it’s safer than getting slammed into the boards or taking the occasional stick to the face. And let’s not forget the off chance that someone’s throat gets slashed by those razor blades they wear on their feet. (Sorry, Richard Zednik) In all honesty, I’ve seen hockey fights more violent and bloody than many MMA fights.
In short, MMA is one of the safest sports out there. The stats back it up. So go back to playing hockey and staying neutral in any global conflict Canada. Obviously combat sports are not for you. (Except for you GSP. You’re a bad man!)
In other news, the UFC has opened its Canadian headquarters in Toronto, Ontario.
I hope they didn’t sign a long-term lease for office space.

There is a difference between boxing, MMA and hockey. In the sport of hockey, one does not receive the continuous and repetitive poundings from being hit in the head until the bell dings. It's random and intermittent. Being cut by skate blades is not a common occurence. But, it does happen. Being killed by a punch to the head in boxing is not common. But, it does happen.
The fundamental basis for the sports are different. Boxing equates to TWO players punching each other for specified times until one is either knocked out physically, deed unfit to play or wins based on the highest number of points. The end of the match can be fast or it can take many rounds.
In hockey, it is a TEAM of players which consists of 22 players with a minimum of 2 lines. In a game, that totals 44 players. Work out the probability of combinations of one player being punched/hit/checked repetitively for the same amount of time as a pugilist, and you will see that the two sports are not at all the same.
Also, considering hockey players are padded and their heads are shielded from direct impact makes a difference. Many players have full face guards as well as neck guards.
